Supermarket में अक्सर बात छोटी होती है, लेकिन सही phrase काम आ जाए तो awkwardness कम हो जाती है। आपको लंबी English नहीं चाहिए; बस कुछ ऐसे वाक्य चाहिए जो shelf, price tag, checkout, और bagging के समय काम आ सकें।
सामान ढूँढते समय
अगर आपको कोई चीज़ shelf पर नहीं मिल रही, तो आप सीधे पूछ सकते हैं:
- Where can I find pasta?
- Do you have this in stock?
- I’m looking for rice.
I’m looking for... बहुत सामान्य और सुरक्षित phrase है। इसका मतलब सीधा-सा है कि आप वही चीज़ ढूँढ रहे हैं। यह दुकानदार या staff को साफ़ संकेत देता है कि आप किस चीज़ के लिए आए हैं।
अगर आपको किसी particular brand या size की जरूरत है, तो phrase को थोड़ा specific कर सकते हैं:
- Do you have a smaller pack?
- Is there a different brand?
- I need the 1 kg pack.
कीमत और पैकिंग के बारे में
Supermarket में price tag देखकर भी कभी-कभी confusion हो जाता है, खासकर जब item पर sale लगी हो या unit price अलग लिखा हो। ऐसे में आप पूछ सकते हैं:
- How much is this?
- Is this on offer?
- What’s the price per kilo?
- Does this come in a bigger size?
Is this on offer? थोड़ा natural और common है। यह तब काम आता है जब आपको शक हो कि item पर discount है या नहीं। अगर आप extra polite होना चाहें, तो Excuse me, is this on offer? भी बोल सकते हैं।
Checkout पर
जब आप bill pay करने के लिए counter पर जाते हैं, तब कुछ basic lines काम आती हैं:
- Can I pay by card?
- Do you take cash?
- Could I get a receipt, please?
- Can I have a bag, please?
Could I get a receipt, please? औपचारिक नहीं, लेकिन polite है। Supermarket में ऐसे छोटे requests बिल्कुल normal लगते हैं। Can I have a bag, please? भी बहुत common है, खासकर जब आपको अपना सामान carry करना हो।
अगर आप self-checkout इस्तेमाल कर रहे हैं, तो कुछ जगह staff से यह पूछना भी पड़ सकता है:
- How does this work?
- Do I scan this here?
- Where do I pay?
अगर आपको मदद चाहिए
कभी-कभी सबसे काम की line वही होती है जो सीधी help माँगे:
- Can you help me, please?
- I can’t find the dairy section.
- Sorry, where are the vegetables?
यहाँ section शब्द बहुत practical है। Supermarket में grocery, dairy, bakery, fruits, vegetables जैसी अलग-अलग sections होती हैं। इसलिए Where are the vegetables? या Where is the dairy section? जैसे सवाल natural लगते हैं।

एक छोटी-सी बात: supermarket में बहुत लंबी या बहुत formal English की जरूरत नहीं होती। छोटे, साफ़ वाक्य ज़्यादा काम करते हैं। I’m looking for..., How much is this?, Can I pay by card? — ये तीनों phrases कई रोज़मर्रा की situations संभाल लेते हैं।
