अगर किसी दुकानदार ने price बताया है और आपको वह ज़्यादा लग रही है, तो सीधा “Can you lower it?” कहना हमेशा सबसे natural तरीका नहीं होता। कई बार बात price से कम और tone से ज़्यादा जुड़ी होती है। English में bargaining करते समय आपका sentence polite भी होना चाहिए और साफ़ भी।
पहले price समझिए, फिर बात आगे बढ़ाइए
सबसे common शुरुआत होती है:
- How much is this? — कीमत पूछने का सीधा, neutral तरीका।
- Is this your best price? — यह पूछने के लिए कि क्या seller इससे कम कर सकता है।
- Can you do any better on the price? — थोड़ा polite bargaining tone।
- Can you give me a discount? — discount मांगने के लिए straightforward phrase।
इन phrases में better, discount, best price जैसे words bargaining context में बहुत काम आते हैं। यह ध्यान रखें कि Can you give me a discount? polite है, लेकिन हर जगह bargain करने की उम्मीद नहीं रखनी चाहिए। Mall, branded store, या fixed-price shop में यह awkward लग सकता है। Street market या local shop में यह ज्यादा natural लगता है।
अगर आप पहले ही price सुन चुके हैं, तो आप जवाब में कह सकते हैं:
- That’s a bit high for me.
- I was hoping for something lower.
- Could you reduce the price a little?
- If I take two, can you lower the price?
यहाँ a bit high for me का मतलब है कि price आपके budget से ऊपर है। यह सीधा “too expensive” कहने से थोड़ा softer लगता है। Bargaining में यही फर्क काम आता है—आप नकार भी रहे हैं, लेकिन rude नहीं लगते।
Tone कैसे रखें
English में bargaining करते समय बहुत aggressive लगना अच्छा नहीं माना जाता। Give me a lower price. grammatically ठीक है, लेकिन tone काफ़ी direct और blunt लग सकती है। इसके बजाय ये forms ज़्यादा natural हैं:
- Could you do a little better?
- Is there any room for discount?
- What’s the lowest you can go?
- Would you consider lowering the price?
What’s the lowest you can go? बहुत common bargaining phrase है, लेकिन इसे हर जगह open-ended invitation की तरह नहीं समझना चाहिए। कुछ sellers इसे normal negotiation की तरह लेते हैं; कुछ इसे बस polite inquiry मानते हैं।
अगर सामने वाला price कम न करे, तो भी बात को smoothly रोकना useful है:
- Okay, I’ll think about it.
- Let me check a few other places.
- Thank you. I’ll come back later.
ये sentences बहुत काम के हैं, क्योंकि bargaining हमेशा जीत-हार की बातचीत नहीं होती। कई बार सिर्फ price check करना होता है, और कभी-कभी आगे बढ़ जाना बेहतर होता है।
जब आप budget बताना चाहें
कई बार सीधे bargain करने से बेहतर होता है कि आप अपना budget साफ़ बता दें। इसके लिए आप कह सकते हैं:
- My budget is around ₹2,000.
- I’m looking to spend less than that.
- That’s a little above my budget.
- Can you match my budget?
अगर आप online या travel shopping context में हैं, तो budget वाला language बहुत उपयोगी होता है। इस तरह आप seller को एक range देते हैं, और बातचीत ज़्यादा practical बनती है। इस हिस्से में अपने बजट के बारे में बात करने के लिए English phrases भी देखें।
Bargain करने के छोटे लेकिन काम के जवाब
कभी-कभी लंबी बात करने की ज़रूरत नहीं होती। ये छोटे phrases भी काफी होते हैं:
- Any chance of a discount?
- Can you do it for less?
- Could you make it cheaper?
- I can pay now if you reduce it a little.
इनमें से Any chance of a discount? बहुत हल्का और friendly लगता है। Could you make it cheaper? समझ में आने वाला phrase है, लेकिन कुछ situations में यह थोड़ा informal और direct लग सकता है। अगर आप polite रहना चाहते हैं, तो Is there any discount available? भी कह सकते हैं।
अगर seller कहे कि price fixed है, तो बार-बार वही बात दोहराने के बजाय आगे बढ़ना बेहतर है। ऐसे में simple response काफी है:
- No problem. Thanks anyway.
- Okay, thanks for letting me know.
Bargaining में confusion कहाँ होती है
Hindi speakers अक्सर यह सोचते हैं कि bargaining के लिए बस “discount” word जोड़ देना काफी है। लेकिन English में sentence का mood भी matters करता है। उदाहरण के लिए:
- Give discount. — बहुत abrupt लगता है।
- Can you give me a discount? — normal और polite.
- Is this the best you can do? — negotiation tone.
एक और common confusion price और cost को लेकर होती है। Shopping conversation में price ज़्यादा natural है। आप आम तौर पर price पूछते हैं, bargain करते हैं, या price कम करने की बात करते हैं। इसलिए What is the cost? समझ में आने वाला है, लेकिन खरीदारी में How much is it? या What’s the price? ज़्यादा natural लगता है। इस फर्क को आप English में कीमत पूछने के आसान phrases में और clearly देख सकते हैं।
एक छोटा realistic example
अगर आप market में किसी bag की कीमत सुनते हैं, तो बातचीत कुछ ऐसी हो सकती है:
- How much is this bag?
- It’s 3,500.
- That’s a bit high for me. Can you do any better on the price?
- I can give it for 3,000.
- Okay, let me think about it.
यहाँ काम का हिस्सा सिर्फ bargain करना नहीं है, बल्कि calmly जवाब देना है। हर बार आपको last word लेने की ज़रूरत नहीं होती। English में polite negotiation अक्सर short, clear, और non-argumentative होती है।
अगर आपने दुकानदार के साथ price पर बात शुरू कर दी है, तो यह भी ध्यान रखें कि closing sentence भी natural हो। Thank you. I’ll think about it. या I’ll come back later. जैसे sentences बातचीत को बिना awkwardness के बंद करते हैं।
